You may decide to become a Divemaster because your ultimate goal is to become a PADI Instructor, or it may be just because you need a challenge and want to gain recognition of your diving abilities. During your course you will expand on your diving theory knowledge and will hone your diving skills to a professional teaching standard. As a Divemaster candidate you will be involved in the training of Open Water Students and will assist in the planning of other diving activities.

What will I do?

Knowledge Development: You will cover 12 topics during the course; this will be through independent study, projects & discussions as well as Instructor Presentations.
Water Skills (& Stamina): This has two goals – to develop and evaluate your overall water skills and stamina, and to improve on your existing scuba skills. You will also refresh your rescue skills.
Practical Application: This will teach you Divemaster skills as well as – undertaking a mapping project, an underwater problem solving exercise, implementing a Divemaster conducted programme and managing a dive accident scenario.

What do I need to start?

To be 18 years of age
A PADI Rescue Diver certification (or similar from another training organisation)
Proof of EFR qualification (or equivalent CPR and 1st Aid Training)
within the last 24 months
A FULL Diving Medical conducted within the last 12 months
A minimum of 20 logged dives (must be 60 logged dives before completion)

What equipment and materials will I need?

A full set of diving equipment including the following:

Timing device
Depth gauge (or dive computer)
Compass
Knife or Dive Tool
At least one audible emergency surface signalling device
(whistle, air horn etc)

PADI Divemaster manual
RDP (all 3 versions plus instruction booklets)
Encyclopaedia of Recreational Diving
Diving Knowledge Workbook
Divemaster Slates
  Instructor Guides for programmes PADI Divemasters may conduct
(Discover Scuba Diving, Discover Snorkelling/Skin Diving, Scuba Review/Discover Local Diving
